Have you ever tried taking powder laundry soap with you or a “jug” of liquid soap? Not an easy task and when you are flying you can’t take a jug with you – at least I won’t. Tired of the hassle of doing laundry while traveling? Well, there is a new kid in town – laundry sheets. They weigh nothing and you will avoid having the powder or liquid getting into everything.
Laundry detergent strips take up no room (everyone should have space for a few strips), and in my experience they worked better than the laundry detergent I was using. Say you are going to be gone for three months, and do one load every two weeks you would only need seven or eight strips. Now you can keep your clothes clean on a short trip or a trip of several months.
Cost Savings
Instead of needing to buy laundry detergent every time you need to wash a load of clothes you just use one strip that you bring with you. No more paying for detergent when you are traveling.
Environmentally Green
The strips come in small packages that weigh nothing, which helps reduce transportation pollution by 90 percent (per Tru- Earth). The package is plastic-free. The company also says that 400 strips (400 loads) is equivalent to a single 100 load jug of traditional detergent. The product comes in compact packaging and you will have less detergent waste – Compostable & Biodegradable Plastic-Free Laundry Detergent.
Easier
Using laundry strips is easier than liquid, powder, pods, or packs! You just toss in one strip per load in the washer and you are good to go. The strips are lightweight, no mess, no measuring, have a small footprint, and are hassle-free.
Tru-Earth Laundry Strips
The brand I tried was Tru-Earth. It has two options, fresh linen scent or unscented. I normally would have bought unscented but since my husband placed the order (smile) we got the linen scent. I try to avoid scents but was pleasantly surprised to not be bothered by the fresh linen scent.
The strips come in packages of 32, 64, or 384 strips.
The company says, “Its low-sudsing formula works in all types of washing machines, including high-efficiency (HE).” The machine I used was Kenmore Elite – Smart Wash – SteamCare — QuitePak4. Some reviews have said the strip does not fully dissolve, but I did not have that problem (I have washed eight loads).
Cleaning Power
My experience using the Tru-Earth strips–the laundry looked cleaner to me then if I used my regular laundry detergent, which is a major brand.
Other Companies
In additional to Tru-Earth here are several companies that also offer laundry strips-
- Breezeo Laundry Detergent Strips
- ECOSNext™ Liquidless Laundry Detergent Squares
- Sheets Laundry Club
I have not tried any of these yet. If you have please leave a comment on your experience!
I am actually surprised that the big names have not released their own version. Just like most of us have gone from powders to liquid, I am hoping strips will catch on.
Conclusion
I will never travel again without taking a small zip lock bag of these laundry strips! This product makes doing laundry on the road so much easier.
