There are many things to consider when you are packing and/or buying clothes for your trip. Here are a few tips and suggestion to consider.
Here are a few to think about
- Weather – Cool, Warm, Rain, Snow, Sunny, Windy
- Light Weight
- Washable
- Wrinkle Free
- Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF)
- Bug Repellant
- Hidden Zippers or Pockets
- Compression
- Quick Drying
- Breathable
- Moisture Wicking
- Reversible
And that is a pretty good list!
If the shirt (or pants…) is reversible (like the one in the picture) you just doubled your wardrobe for your trip. Another thing to remember is Layers! One advantage to layers is you can use different combinations to give different looks – so it looks like you have more outfits then you really do. Also if you are going where it is cold or the temperatures fluctuate, you will want to be able to add and take off layers to be comfortable at all times.
Yes there are clothes that come with bug repellant and if you have skin cancer or worry that you might you can find clothes with UPF ratings. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends clothes with UPF rating of 30 or more.
Are the clothes bulky, never good for airplane travel, or are they very foldable. One thing to remember if you are traveling somewhere cold carry your jacket/coat on-board. It does not count towards the number of items you can bring with you. But please if you are going to put it in the overhead bins, wait till all the carry-on luggage has been stowed and then place your jacket on top. Some people even use their jackets like blankets.
The shirt pictured with this blog, that I bought yesterday, is called an “Satin Origami” from Magic Scarf. It is reversible and I love both colors. There were several choices of colors including a purple that was very tempting.
The tag said one size fits all, which I was skeptical of but it really does fit. It is wrinkle free, fast drying and packs into a very small space. All of which makes this a great new addition to my wardrobe.

As a side note something we use on our way home are the “compression bags.” Use the bags to pack your clothes and see them shrink to a much smaller easier to pack space. These bags really will save you space and make room for those trinkets and mementos you just bought. You can find them at many places like Target.
I should not have been, but was shocked when I typed into Google search – Travel Clothes. It said it had “About 185,000,000 results”!
A website that I liked was http://www.magellans.com/ They had a lot more then clothes and I found some unusual things that I may have to order.
They had things like toothpaste tablets, toothettes, vented socks, laundry soap sheets (very convenient) and even the cure for jet lag. I have not tried the jet lag remedy, if anyone has please let me know how it worked for you.
I may have to try the toothettes, on my 13-hour flight to London this coming March I am sure I will want to brush my teeth!
Oh and one important thing I have not mentioned yet is your clothes should be comfortable!
It is really fun to have a new outfit to wear on your trip, so be sure to think about what you will need and buy accordingly. I for one am going to look at buying a shirt with a secret compartment. Have fun shopping!
